The Emerald Society, an esteemed alumni organization of City University of Hong Kong, held its 7th Council Inauguration Ceremony on January 29, 2024, with Dr. Gary Cheng being appointed as the Vice Chairman of the 7th Council. Mr Lester Garson Huang, SBS, JP, Council Chairman of CityU and Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityU, and various university administrators attended the banquet, wishing for close collaboration between the alumni association and the university to expand alumni networking both domestically and overseas.

Dr. Cheng, who completed his Doctor of Business Administration program at CityU in 2011, has been actively supporting his alma mater. He serves as the Honorary Vice President of the CityU Foundation, a member of the CityU Advisory Committee, and the founding member and former chairman of Emerald Society, the senior alumni organization.

In 2022, Dr. Cheng was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by CityU. To express gratitude for Dr. Cheng and his spouse’s generous support and donations to the university, the Student Career Center was named “The Judith and Gary Cheng Student Career Centre” in 2021.
